• Frequently Asked Questions

General to both therapy and coaching

What is the difference between a therapist and a coach?

Great question! Because I am both a therapist and a coach, it is especially important to be clear on this. All of my training, experience and resources, of course, remain the same and go with me in whichever role I am filling. But...the difference comes in the type of relationship we have. Although there is definitely some overlap (coaching frequently happens in therapy and people often experience "healing" during coaching), the focus of attention is different. In coaching, we are working together to move you forward. In therapy, we are working together to bring you out of the past and into the present. Coaching is a bit more pro-actively encouraging of progress while therapy is generally less directive overall. For more information on how I see this distinction, please reference my website page, called Coaching or Therapy?

Do you offer reduced fee pricing or sliding scale services?

At the moment, I serve low fee clients through Open Path Collective. If you visit the website and search for me, you can see if I am currently available for low fee clients. If not, there are many other wonderful clinicians represented through Open Path that may be available at a price that works for you.

    What about Insurance?

Potential insurance benefits apply only to therapy services. When requested, we are happy to provide you with a Superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for possible out of network reimbursement. If interested in this option, please contact your insurance representative to ask what your "out of network" benefits might be.

    Location and Parking?

Snapdragon is at 19 E. First Street, suite D in downtown Hinsdale. There is limited metered parking on First Street and also a new free parking garage, accessible from Garfield St., just south of First Street. Definitely plan in a little extra time for finding a parking spot. If you're early, you can explore our pleasant downtown for awhile or feel free to enjoy a few quiet moments in our cozy waiting room.

What can I expect at my first session/call?

First conversations are all about me getting to know you a little bit, hearing what you are wanting to change in your life and how I might help. I'll answer any questions you might have about the process of therapy or coaching and together we'll consider whether we might be a good fit for working together. Success is largely dependent on the strength of our working relationship and a foundation of trust. If, for whatever reason, it becomes evident that we are not the best fit, I would be happy to provide you with referrals to other excellent professionals in the Chicagoland area.

    Do you offer telehealth sessions?

Yes! This is something that I work out with each individual client, depending on needs, preferences, location and other factors. There are pros and cons to both and each has it's place.

    What is your pricing?

Pricing varies dramatically depending on the service and so, I prefer to discuss this on your complimentary call. Most of my services are offered as packages rather than a per hour rate which means you know up front how much you will pay altogether and how long the process will take. Many clients like this clarity but for some it may feel like too much of a financial commitment all at once. For all of my packaged services, I have a payment plan option, to help those for whom cash flow is an issue. I work in this way because of my philosophy about growth and healing and what I believe truly yields change.

  • FAQs Specific to Coaching

If I start a coaching agreement with you and then decide I want to see you as a therapist, is that okay?

No. If you decide you have some work you'd like to do with a therapist, I will be happy to refer you to excellent possible therapists for you. I love doing this and have some wonderful referrals to share. It is best to keep coaching and therapeutic relationships distinct.

How will I know you are the right coach for me?

During our initial conversations and/or strategy session, together we will identify if this is a good fit. Before you say "yes", you will have experienced (in that complimentary strategy session) a sample of what the coaching experience will be like. Until then, click on the "Meet Jennifer" page to learn more about me and my approach in coaching.

How does the coaching process work?

Coaching is a collaborative process in which client and coach work together to create amazing outcomes. Typically, I use a format of 3 sessions per month, usually across the first three weeks with the fourth being a week for implementation and integration. Coaching is a combination of listening, teaching, sharing, encouraging and knowing just the right questions to ask to help you move forward with intentionality toward your goals. I am regularly assessing how we are doing and readjusting according to each client's unique needs. I am 100% committed to your success and excited to get to help you in this way.

How long is the typical coaching arrangement?

Length of coaching depends on which package you choose. My current packages range from one day to 6 months. And, which package depends on what result you are looking for. To learn more about the various options available, visit the Coaching Services tab on my website or schedule a complimentary strategy session to talk this through.

Can I contact you in between sessions?

Yes! In the event that you would like support on something that comes up in between our meetings, you can post an inquiry to the Client Log and we can have "just in time" coaching via your Private Client Website. It's really fun and is almost guaranteed to ensure progress!

What if I sign up for this and then decide that it is not right for me? Do you have a money back guarantee?

Yes, I call it my "participate and get your money back" guarantee. If, within the first month of our relationship, you show up to the calls and participate fully in the coaching process, you can simply let me know this is not working for you and I will completely refund your money. To honor the coaching agreement and the coaching process, if you sign up and do not show up for your coaching sessions, do not do the follow up work, etc, then your money will not be refunded.

How do I get started in the coaching process?

If you are interested in beginning the coaching process, please contact me via email so we can schedule our initial strategy session to further explore the details of the coaching relationship. Or, even easier, click here: Schedule Your Complimentary Strategy Session Now to pick a date and time that works best for you!

What if my question was not answered in this list?

Please contact me, either through your client log (if you are already a client) or through email and I will do my best to respond within 24 hours.
